Hi, I’m James. Welcome to Home Power.
So I was up on the roof of a manufacturing plant one day, maybe inspecting things, maybe enjoying a little sunshine (take your pick). Someone had recently asked me if our facility had a backup generator (no), and when I’d looked into the cost of industrial generators ($100k+) and their daily fuel cost (thousands) my head had exploded.
Being the sustainability manager for the facility, solar had naturally crossed my mind more than once up there on that big, flat, sunny roof. So I was marveling at how much more sense solar/battery made than diesel/gennie, and I had an epiphany.
“I’m in the wrong line of work.”
It’s not that my job was bad. The people were awesome and the job had some great perks. But it was improving things that I really loved, making the facility a more perfect system worthy of this “future” we live in! And nothing says “future” to me more than renewable energy! My mind was blown when that first batch of sun-baked brownies emerged from my 2nd grade class’s tinfoil solar oven! The thrill of discovering that power was all around us has been a part of me since then! (Mrs Ellis, was that you? Thank you!)
Home Power’s will is to get people fired up with the joy of efficient gadget reviews, electric vehicles, clean energy, smart home technology, simplicity, life hacks, etc. I’m a fan of minimalism, except that I call my version “maximalism”, because it’s all about getting the most out of what we use, and using it with wisdom and gratitude.
How we use, conserve and produce the energy has a profound impact on the quality of our lives, and that’s what Home Power is all about, Intelligent Quality of life!
